Are you in need of some quick cash? What if I told you that you could clean out that mess in the attic and get paid for it? That’s right, yard sales. One of the best ways to earn some extra finances is to have a yard sale. However, too many people have wasted full days with only meager earnings. You may be wondering if there’s some sort of trick to this whole yard sale thing. If so, you’re completely right. There are several little tricks to make sure that you have a successful yard sale.
Don’t decide Saturday morning at 10am that you want to have a yard sale. The best way to guarantee traffic through your attic merchandise is to advertise. Set out “Yard Sale Saturday” signs on Friday morning or even Thursday night. Drag all your junk down from the attic before the sun sets on Friday. If you live in a damp climate, cover the damageable items with tarps overnight.
2. Start Early
The best part of all that preparation is that come Saturday morning, you’re ready to go. However, there’s a catch. There’s no such thing as sleeping in on a successful yard sale. The highest spending yard sale hoppers are out as early as 6am, so you should be prepared to greet them.
3. Bargains, Bargains, Bargains!
I know you want at least 50 bucks out of your old VCR, but sometimes you have to face that it’s just not going to sell at that high. When someone makes an offer, be prepared to bite the bargain bullet. That doesn’t mean you have to let anyone rob you, but let’s face it. This is a yard sale, people didn’t come to find stuff that’s more expensive than it is online.
4. Think About It
When you’re choosing what to bring out, don’t bring out all the stuff that was no good any way. Don’t have a lot of legitimate trash in your yard sale. Many shoppers decide if they’re going to stop while they’re driving by. Put your best foot forward, after all, the goal here is to attract people to your old stuff.
You would be surprised how much a 25 cent cold drink can do. People that would have never stopped by will end up being your best shoppers. Even if they come for the lemonade and leave, those little quarters will add up.
6. Don’t Waste the Day
After about 3pm, most if not all of your yard sale traffic will be gone. You may get one curious onlooker, but even that is unlikely. Feel free to start packing up. If you have decent leftovers, think about having another one next Saturday. Count your earnings and enjoy a nice celebration dinner. Yard sales can be tiring, though rewarding. Don’t push it past the high sales time.
All this to say, Yard Sales are a great financial booster, so long as you do them right. Have a great yard sale!
